The ICEC Gustav and Ingrid Klipping Award

Gustav and Ingrid Klipping Award

The International Cryogenic Engineering Committee awards a young researcher for outstanding work in cryogenic engineering (max. 35 years of age). The award is named after Gustav and Ingrid Klipping to commemorate their enormous contributions to the field of cryogenics and more specifically to recognize their active role in involving young researchers. The award is given on the occasion of the International Cryogenic Engineering Conference, which is held every two years. The award was given for the first time at the Conference in 2014 at University of Twente in The Netherlands. The awardee of the 2014 Klipping Award was dr. Yonghua Huang, associate professor at Shanghai Jiao University in China.

The awardee of the 2016 Klipping Award is Dr. Haishan Cao, post-doctoral researcher at the University of Twente in The Netherlands for his work on micromachined Joule-Thomson coolers. After receiving his Master of Science from the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, he continued his research at the University of Twente and completed his PhD in 2013 with a study on a 30 K two-stage microcooler. As a post-doc researcher in the same institute he has made further valuable steps in applying and improving these micromachined coolers. The awardee will receive a certificate and a check of 1000 CHF, plus a waiver of the registration fee of the ICEC conference.
